Summer is not over yet, and August is one of the best times
of the year to visit the coast of Maine.
So let’s take a little midweek escape, shall we?

You drive. No, let’s
fly. It doesn’t matter how we get there.
Let’s just sit here.
Former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara
brought a lot of attention to Kennebunkport, Maine, during his presidency due
to his owning a home there. The Cape
Arundel Inn, the only oceanfront inn in Kennebunkport, just happens to be the
former president’s neighbor.
Cape Arundel Inn, Kennebunkport, Maine |
This quaint, restored inn, under the ownership of new
innkeepers, has been a landmark in Kennebunkport since 1895.
Sitting high on a knoll, the Inn offers
breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the crashing surf.
Some rooms at the Cape Arundel Inn actually have views of
Bush’s home. Here’s a sneak peek of the
new rooms since new ownership took over. This is room 8. I love what the owners have done with the
décor. It went from feminine floral to
sea-calming, tranquil elegance. I personally love blues and grays in an
oceanfront home.
And you know when I’m on vacation, I like to eat. Cape Arundel Inn has one of the best
restaurants in Kennebunkport under the culinary leadership of Executive Chef
Richard Lemoine. The reviews on open
table will make your mouth water. I’m so
disappointed that I could not make it to Kennebunkport this summer to experience
this cuisine and the quintessential feel of staying in a shingle-style New
England Inn.
It must be heavenly to wake up and know you will have this
delicious spread waiting for you in the dining room. I spy a scone. Oh, it’s so mine!
After we stuff ourselves with scones, muffins, and fresh
juice, let’s sit on the porch awhile and take in the sea breeze.
Who knows? You may even get to see some former presidents
while in the area.
